Geena Davis will not return for The Exorcist season 2

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

A few weeks ago we shared news that FOX's THE EXORCIST has been renewed for a second season. As production on season 2 gets closer and closer, more and more details are starting to surface; including which members of the first season will return and which will head off into the sunset.

Let's start with the good news. The first season's holy trinity of super priests Alfonso Herrera, Kurt Egyiawan and Ben Daniels are all set to return to bust some ghost (demon) ass. That said they will be tackling a whole new storyline and possession. Unfortunately, this means that not only will (**SPOILERS**) Geena Davis aka Regan MacNeil not be returning for season 2, but neither will any of her family members.

Yep. That means THE EXORCIST season 2 will have to make due without Alan Ruck, Hannah Kasulka and Brianne Howey (see below).

Now, that doesn't mean the family won't make an appearance in the upcoming season. After all, executive producer Jeremy Slater told Deadline a while back that the first season's main goal was “to tell a story with a beginning, a middle and an end and that story was the possession of the Rance family." But he also said, "That doesn’t mean we won’t see the Rance family again.”

I'll miss them for sure, but as long as Ben 'badass' Daniels is coming back, I'm good to go. Let us know what you think of this news and THE EXORCIST series in general on Facebook, Twitter, and/or Instagram!

THE EXORCIST will return to FOX later this year.
