Gavin O’Connor to direct Suicide Squad sequel

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Although not everyone walked away as a fan of David Ayer's SUICIDE SQUAD, Warner Bros. was quick to get the ball rolling on a sequel. As for who might direct it, that proved to be a little more difficult, as David Ayer moved aside to focus on GOTHAM CITY SIRENS and everyone from Mel Gibson (HACKSAW RIDGE) to Jaume Collet-Serra (THE SHALLOWS) was courted to bring the further misadventures of Deadshot (Will Smith), Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), and the Joker (Jared Leto) to life. The studio has finally found someone to helm the SUICIDE SQUAD sequel as Deadline reports that Gavin O'Connor is the man for the job.

Gavin O'Connor, best known for his work on WARRIOR and THE ACCOUNTANT, is now in final negotiations to both write and direct SUICIDE SQUAD 2. Due to the busy schedules of the SUICIDE SQUAD stars, production on the sequel isn't expected to get underway until next fall, which gives Warner Bros. and Gavin O'Connor plenty of time to get it right. This move will keep O'Connor in the Warner Bros. family for the foreseeable future, as he's also still attached to develop and direct a sequel to THE ACCOUNTANT, which will see Ben Affleck returning as Christian Wolff, freelance accountant and all around bad-ass.

Sound off in the comments. Is Gavin O'Connor the right person for SUICIDE SQUAD 2?
