Garris/Dante anthology Nightmare Cinema heads to Fantasia

One of my most highly anticipated upcoming horror releases is the anthology NIGHTMARE CINEMA, which will consist of segments directed by Mick Garris, Joe Dante, Alejandro Brugués, Ryûhei Kitamura, and David Slade. Basically, it seems like a feature revival of the Garris-created anthology series Masters of Horror, and I loved that show.

It has just been announced that the film will be having its premiere at this year’s Fantasia International Film Festival in Montreal, which will start on July 12th and last until August 1st. It’s not likely that I will be in attendance, but it’s nice to know NIGHTMARE CINEMA will be playing in front of an audience in a couple months.

The anthology has the following synopsis:

A series of down-on-their-luck individuals enter the decrepit and spine-chilling Rialto theater, only to have their deepest and darkest fears brought to life on the silver screen by The Projectionist – a mysterious, ghostly figure who holds the nightmarish futures of all who attend his screenings. By the time our patrons realize the truth, escape is no longer an option. For once the ticket is torn, their fate is sealed at Nightmare Cinema.

Mickey Rourke stars as The Projectionist.

I’m hoping to hear some positive reactions to NIGHTMARE CINEMA come out of Fantasia, and I’m really hoping we’ll be getting some release details around that time, too.

The full Fantasia lineup will be announced in early July, with tickets going on sale soon after.
