I hope Samuel L. Jackson enjoys lasagna because he’s about to hang with an iconic cat named Garfield who’s positively gaga for the stuff. The word is out that Samuel L. Jackson will star alongside Chris Pratt in Alcon Entertainment‘s animated Garfield film. Do you think Jackson hates Mondays as much as snakes on a plane? I hope we find out.
Jackson will play a brand-new character, Garfield’s father, Vic. Mark Dindal (Chicken Littler, The Emperor’s New Groove) is directing the film, based on the legendary comic strip of the same name by cartoonist Jim Davis. In the Garfield comic strip, the lazy orange cat philosophizes about life and tortures Odie and Jon Arbuckle, his fellow pet and owner, respectively.
No details about the plot of Dindal’s Garfield have been revealed. The last time Garfield graced the silver screen was in 2004 when Bill Murray voiced the character for a live-action film directed by Peter Hewitt. A sequel titled Garfield: A Tale of Two Kitties was released in 2006, seeing Jon and Garfield visit the United Kingdom, where a case of mistaken identity finds Garfield ruling over a castle. Reviews for both films were all over the map, though most skewed toward the negative. When word broke that Pratt would voice the character for another movie, film fans threw their hands in the air in despair. Whether they want it or not, Garfield is happening, and now Samuel L. Jackson is along for the ride. Does that make this project better? Will Garfield’s dad have a potty mouth? Only time will tell.
Will you see Alcon Entertainment’s Garfield movie? Maybe you need to see a trailer first? I admit that I’m morbidly curious about it. Especially now that Jackson is involved. At the very least, Jackson’s presence makes this worth a look. Plus, I learned to read on Garfield comics, so I’m willing to give this a chance until I see something too heinous to ignore. I’m hoping for the best. Are you?
