Gareth Evans says The Raid 3 will not happen

Director Gareth Evans has a new horror thriller hitting Netflix soon called APOSTLE starring Dan Stevens. While that movie looks to be a brutal and bleak bunch of fun, Evans will probably always be known as the director of THE RAID and THE RAID 2. And speaking of those films, does Evans have any plans on making a third entry? Turns out that if he did, that time has now passed. 

Gareth Evans on THE RAID 3:

The Raid 3 was… at one point it was on my radar. I had a full idea. I know what the storyline would have been. But I think enough time has passed now that I think I'm not likely to go back and revisit it. We had a lot of fun making those films, and I think we came to a nice, sort of natural conclusion with [The Raid 2]. And I think sometimes you can have a little bit too much of a good thing.

The original film followed:

A rookie member of an elite team of commandos, Rama (Iko Uwais) is instructed to hang back while his comrades-in-arms go ahead with their mission to take down a brutal crime lord called Tama (Ray Sahetapy). However, the team's cover is blown, and Tama offers sanctuary to every criminal in his high-rise apartment block in exchange for the cops' heads. Now Rama must take command and lead his remaining team on an ultraviolent charge through the building to complete — and survive — the mission.

The sequel began:

After surviving a bloody fight with powerful gangsters, rookie Jakarta cop Rama (Iko Uwais) thinks he can resume a normal life. However, his exploits during that fateful incident have attracted the attention of criminals even more deadly than the last. His family at risk, Rama has no choice but to go under cover. He gets himself thrown in prison, where he befriends the son of a prominent crime kingpin. Rama must lay his own life on the line to finally destroy the criminal empire.
