It’s hard to fathom that Gareth Edwards is already planning his next movie after GODZILLA, because… it’s GODZILLA. You’d think this would be front in center on the man’s mind, yes?
That said, we’ve known since last September that the MONSTERS director has teamed up with mega-producer Timur Bekmambetov to bring us “an epic human story, set in a futuristic world without humanity”. While many of us likely forgot about this flick after Edwards boarded the GODZILLA reboot, it’s apparently still very much in the works. And now some more details have come to light.
According to Slashfilm’s “good sources”, the untitled project will tell the tale of a young human child (probably around 5 years old) and a robot who travel across the galaxy in search of mankind’s origin in a world void of humanity and filled with robots. Edwards is apparently pitching it as a “robot STAR WARS”.
Ambitious stuff. Conjures some thoughts of A.I. and WALL-E and a few other things, but it’s too early to tell what this will really resemble. There’s one thing for sure: For a guy who made his first movie for about $500,000, Edwards sure is aiming big with his follow-ups.
