Remember when it was announced that Godzilla and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story director Gareth Edwards was finally going to be making another movie, and that John David Washington (Tenet) had signed on to star in it? It’s totally understandable if that news managed to completely slip your mind, because Washington signed on two years ago, and we hadn’t heard anything else about the movie since… But yesterday, JoBlo’s own Chris Bumbray had the chance to see the first trailer for the film at CinemaCon, discovering that the project, which was formerly known as True Love, is now going by the title The Creator, and it happens to be a post-apocalyptic action movie.
Bumbray reported that The Creator is set in a post-apocalyptic future after a war between humans and AI. John David Washington’s character is human. A young girl is being hunted for actually being a robot, and Washington’s character has to protect her. Judging by the trailer, it looks like the film will have a ton of action. The audience went nuts. The Creator will be an IMAX film, and it’s pretty great looking.
Since he only had a chance to see the trailer once, Bumbray wasn’t sure whether or not the young girl is meant to be the daughter of Washington’s character, despite her being a robot. Deadline definitely got the daughter impression, reporting “The daughter is an android, with a half-head. Gorgeous battle scenes akin to Edwards’ Rogue One: A Star Wars Story see spaceship fighters attacking tropical locales. This movie makes Blade Runner look like child’s play in its production design.” Perhaps Washington’s character is “the creator” of this robot girl and thinks of her as a daughter.
Coming our way from 20th Century Studios/New Regency, The Creator is set to reach theatres on September 29th, so it shouldn’t be long before those of us who weren’t at CinemaCon will have the chance to watch the trailer. If it looks as cool as these reports indicate, they’re going to want to start building the hype among movie-goers very soon.
