Up to now, LEGO video games have mastered the adaptation of movie franchises like THE LORD OF THE RINGS, HARRY POTTER, STAR WARS, and BATMAN. With the amalgam of those disparate worlds in THE LEGO MOVIE, Warner Bros found a way to capitalize on everything that makes LEGO unique and fun. But, with all of the development that goes into making a video game for a single movie, the game developers would always be lagging behind. Now they have found a way to overcome that hurdle with the open world game LEGO Dimensions.
Modeled after the highly successful Skylanders and Disney Infinity series of toys and games, LEGO Dimensions will allow Warner Bros to bring their various franchises, new and old, into the game as they see fit. Starting out for $99.99, the Starter Pack will come packaged with the game, toy pad, minifigures of Batman, Gandalf, and Wyldstyle from THE LEGO MOVIE. Expansion packs will be available for prices ranging from $14.99 to $29.99 based on THE WIZARD OF OZ, BACK TO THE FUTURE, THE LEGO MOVIE, DC Comics, THE LORD OF THE RINGS, and NINJAGO.
The game is promised to be the only disc needed with no new game on the horizon which has been an issue for Skylanders and Disney Infinity each time they roll out a new version. LEGO Dimensions will, like THE LEGO MOVIE, allow for new games to be played within each distinct universe but also the chance to combine superheroes with fantasy characters before relegated to the physical LEGO toys. The sky is the limit and now Warner Bros has a new marketing tool for the expected onslaught of DC Cinematic Universe tie-ins.
LEGO Dimensions will be available on all major consoles when it hits stores on September 27th.
