Warner Bros. Discovery is handing out series orders like Halloween candy today with two more exciting announcements! HBO is giving a series order to A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight, a Game of Thrones prequel series. The prequel is based on Tales of Dunk and Egg, focusing on two unlikely heroes, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his squire, Aegon V Targaryen, also known as Egg. The studio also ordered a new spinoff series based on The Big Bang Theory.
Here’s the official summary for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight:
A century before the events of ‘Game of Thrones,’ two unlikely heroes wandered Westeros… a young, naïve but courageous knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his diminutive squire, Egg. Set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory, great destinies, powerful foes, and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends.
The story takes place roughly 90 years before the original Game of Thrones. The prequel series is based on the three novellas: The Hedge Knight (1998), The Sworn Sword (2003), and Mystery Knight (2010). George R.R. Martin is attached to the new project as a writer and executive producer, in addition to House of the Dragon co-executive producer Ira Parker. Ryan Condal and Vince Gerardis also executive produce.
In addition to the new Game of Thrones spinoff, the studios are moving forward with a spinoff based on The Big Bang Theory. The project is in the works at Warner Bros. Television with executive producer Chuck Lorre executive producing. Plot details remain a mystery, though it marks the second collaboration between Max, Lorre, and WBTV after Young Sheldon.
Per the official press release for The Big Bang Theory spinoff:
The Big Bang Theory debuted in 2007 and was the number-one comedy in the world. It concluded its successful 12-season run in 2019 as the longest-running multi-camera series in television history, with 279 episodes. The series won ten Emmy Awards and received 55 Emmy nominations. “The Big Bang Theory” also won a Critics Choice TV Award for Outstanding Comedy Series and The Humanitas Prize.
Are you excited about more shows in the Game of Thrones and The Big Bang Theory universes? While the inspiration for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight is straightforward, what do you think The Big Bang Theory spinoff will be about? Young Leonard? Young Howard? Young Raj? I hope it’s more original than that, but we will know when WB releases more information. Feel free to share your theories in the comments.
