HBO is gearing up to return to the Game of Thrones universe with the prequel series, House of the Dragon, and now they have provided us with the first extended trailer for the long-awaited series.
House Of The Dragon, created by George R.R. Martin and Ryan Condal, is a prequel to Game of Thrones and is based on Martin’s novel, “Fire & Blood.” The show is set 300 years before the events of Game of Thrones and chronicles the beginning of the end of House Targaryen. The series is one of six Game of Thrones-related prequel projects that is in the works at HBO so it’s obvious they know that this universe is a hit they’re not really to let go of it just yet. The series stars Matt Smith as dragonrider Prince Daemon Targaryen, Emma D’Arcy as Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen, Steve Toussaint as Lord Corlys Velaryon (also known as the Sea Snake), Olivia Cooke as Alicent Hightower, and Rhys Ifans as Otto Hightower.
Even though HBO is technically calling this a “teaser trailer”, the cable network previously released an official teaser back in October but this is definitely a more extensive look at the upcoming series. House of the Dragon is of major importance for HBO because they’re hoping to recapture some of the ratings magic that Game of Thrones achieved during its run. The series was a true phenomenon, generating more than a billion dollars in revenue from 2011 to 2019. Given the fact that they have more Game of Thrones prequel series in the works, the success of House of the Dragon would indicate that fans could be hungry for more.
