Game of Thrones: Jon Snow spinoff in the works at HBO

game thrones sequel, Jon snow, kit Harrington

It looks like HBO is heading North of the Wall, with THR revealing that Kit Harington is attached to once again play Jon Snow in a Game of Thrones spinoff series centred around his character. While it’s not the first spin-off for the franchise (that would be House of the Dragon, which premieres August 21st), it’s the first Game of Thrones sequel series, although certainly, there’s the potential for more to come.

When the series ended (in a bitterly divisive finale), the heroic Jon Snow was exiled North of the Wall, and presumably, the show will center around his adventures with the Wildings. The potential for a crowd-pleasing show is there. One would assume Snow’s beloved direwolf, Ghost, would figure heavily into the plot. Potentially, Kristofer Hivju’s Tormund could be involved too. The possibilities are limitless.

No showrunner or creative crew is attached yet as it’s still in early development, but one would assume that it would all come together very quickly given that Harington has signed on. A Jon Snow Game of Thrones sequel series can potentially be a massive money-maker for HBO. They are definitely doubling down on George R.R. Martin’s fantasy universe, with many other prequels in development.

While prequels are one thing, a series of Game of Thrones sequels are another. It was apparent when the show ended that sequels would eventually happen, as the door was left wide open. Very few fan-favourite characters died, so Maisie Williams’ Arya, Sophie Turner’s Sansa, and Gwendoline Christie’s Brienne of Tarth are still out there. Heck, even Peter Dinklage might come back as Tyrion Lannister. Who knows?

Again though, the Jon Snow Game of Thrones sequel series is still in early development, so things could change. That said, I personally can’t wait for a return trip North of the Wall. Let us know in the comments if you agree!
