Fans of Game of Thrones will be able to dive back into that universe this summer! It has been announced that the prequel series, House of The Dragon, will premiere on HBO on August 21, 2022, per Deadline.
The premiere date has the series debuting ahead of another highly anticipated fantasy project. Prime Video’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is set to premiere a couple of weeks later on September 2, 2022. Prime Video wants The Rings of Power to be their Game of Thrones so it will be interesting to see which series will be greeted with the most fanfare. House Of The Dragon, created by George R.R. Martin and Ryan Condal, is a prequel to Game of Thrones and is based on Martin’s novel, “Fire & Blood.” The show is set 300 years before the events of Game of Thrones and chronicles the beginning of the end of House Targaryen. The series is one of six Game of Thrones-related prequel projects that is in the works at HBO so it’s obvious they know that this universe is a hit they’re not ready to let go of just yet. The series stars Matt Smith as Prince Daemon Targaryen, Emma D’Arcy as Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen, Steve Toussaint as Lord Corlys Velaryon (also known as the Sea Snake), Olivia Cooke as Alicent Hightower, and Rhys Ifans as Otto Hightower.
