HBO Max is going all-in on their Game of Thrones animation slate with two shows currently in development for the streamer.
A single animated project was revealed to be in development back in January but now comes news that there are at least two more potential shows on the horizon, according to "The Hollywood Reporter." One of the projects is set in a territory that was never seen in the original series and it's called The Golden Empire of Yi Ti. Also simply called Yi Ti, it is a region in the continent of Essos, near the south-eastern limits of the known world. In terms of creator George R.R. Martin's sprawling fantasy realm, it is considered one of the oldest and most advanced societies. It is said that Yi Ti is inspired by Imperial China much how Westeros, the primary setting of Game of Thrones, was inspired by Medieval Europe.
In other Game of Thrones news, a live-action prequel concept is no longer going forward. Flea Bottom, which was reported to be in development and was based on the life of the infamous King's Landing slum, was apparently more of an idea that went public and was never confirmed by HBO. The only post-Game of Thrones project that is confirmed to hit the air is the prequel series House of the Dragon, which tells the story of the Targaryen Civil War. That series is set for a 2022 launch and, to bring it back to the aforementioned animated series that is in development, a character on House of Dragon, Lord Corlys Velaryon the "Sea Snake", famously sailed to Yi Yi, the setting for the animated show.
