2018’s dark comedy, Game Night, made a splash upon its release when audiences found the movie to be a cleverly written mystery on top of the laughs, with the look of a David Fincher film. If you ever clamored for a sequel to the R-rated comedy, you are in good company. Rachel McAdams recently spoke with Empire about how her own mom was so impressed with the movie, she wants her to do a sequel.
While doing promotion for her new film, Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret, McAdams revealed that her mom was one of Game Night‘s biggest fans. “You know, right after my mom saw that movie, she was like, ‘You have to do a sequel!’ ” she explains. McAdams would then express her enthusiasm to return to the world of the film. “I would totally be down for that. I love [Daley and Goldstein] , and I love a game night, so it’s the perfect package for me. Also, I don’t wanna disappoint my mom!”
Game Night involved a group of friends who meet up regularly for a…well…game night. Except the night turns into a dangerous web of mystery when one of the group’s shady brothers is seemingly kidnapped by ruthless gangsters. Jason Bateman co-starred with McAdams, and both were gathered with an ensemble of acting talents, including Kyle Chandler, Lamorne Morris, Jesse Plemons, Billy Magnussen, and Michael C. Hall. The film was directed by John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, who both have helmed the recent film, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves.
Meanwhile, McAdams is starring in Are You The God? It’s Me, Margaret, from Kelly Fremon Craig. McAdams found the role to be especially personal as she is exploring her own experience of motherhood. “I had a five-month-old baby [at the time] and it was just such a female-positive, mom-positive story. There was a lot of care around showing puberty on screen, and I really felt the intergenerational slant that [Craig] was bringing to the story. The book was really centred on Margaret, but this version rounds out her mother and grandmother as characters. So I really responded to all those rich female characters. It was an important story to tell.”
