Gale Anne Hurd previews the ‘jaw-dropping’ finale of ‘The Walking Dead’

Last Updated on July 23, 2021

I am sure in some shape or form we are all eager to see how ‘The Walking Dead’ will wrap up Season 2. This week’s episode had a pretty shocking conclusion and more shocks are in store. Naturally if you aren’t up to date with the show, leave now because this may contain SPOILERS.

We saw a pretty different Carl (Chandler Riggs), and the changes he’s gone through are very much apparent. Gale commented with: “The opportunity we have with Carl’s character, is to see what it’s like with someone growing up in which this is the new normal. You can’t get too attached, but you don’t want to lose your humanity at the same time. As a child you don’t know the difference, but as the parents you do, and that’s why I think Rick is who he is and does what he does in many instances because he is always trying to think, ‘What kind of example am I setting for Carl?’”

And how about Shane? The other figure in his life: “You are going with a loose cannon. You are going with someone that is so impulsive…a lot of the time it turns out well, but he does have no regard for human life…He could blow at any moment.”

It was revealed that Carl will play a major role in the finale, and I am sure some of us comic readers have some ideas about it. “When we mixed the last couple of episodes, 2.12 and 2.13. Even my jaw dropped—and I was there when we shot it. I have a feeling, even though people are inveterate tweeters during episodes, I have a feeling there may be some significant periods of silence because people may not be able to click on their keyboards.”

The finale is always upon us; I guess we shall prepare to be shocked! ‘The Walking Dead’ airs Sundays at 9pm on AMC.
