Galaxy Quest revival series still in development says Sigourney Weaver

Galaxy Quest, revival, TV, Sigourney Weaver

Galaxy Quest followed a group of washed-up actors from a cult sci-fi TV series who became involved in an actual space adventure when a group of aliens mistook their TV show for real events. The film really should not have been as good as it was, but with equal helpings of comedy, action, and heart, not to mention the perfect ensemble cast of Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver, Alan Rickman, Tony Shalhoub, Sam Rockwell, Daryl Mitchell, and more, Galaxy Quest quickly became one of my favourites.

There have been rumblings of a Galaxy Quest sequel for quite some time, which later transformed into an Amazon TV series, but the tragic passing of Alan Rickman seemed to bring the project to a halt. However, Tim Allen revealed earlier this year that the revival is still in the works, and Sigourney Weaver confirmed as much while speaking with Collider recently.

It was about four years ago, Bob and (producer) Mark Johnson and the whole group, started to develop a series. We lost the wonderful Alan [Rickman] unexpectedly, so that was put in mothballs, but I think they are finally now reviving it

"It will be the story of the old ancient Galaxy Questers being brought into this series with another young cast," Weaver continued. "I haven't read them, so I don't know the details, but I think that everyone in Galaxy Quest would love to participate because it was such a wonderful experience for us. How they will find someone to play Alan's part, don't know, but I think that they have a very good idea of who to do it. He's irreplaceable, eternally. I think there may be good news on that front, but I haven't heard about it in these six months, so when it's gonna happen, I'm not sure." Although I love Galaxy Quest, not everything needs to be revived; that said, I'll likely be the first one in line should the crew of the NSEA Protector return.
