Word has come on the wind that the executive producer of Piazza Entertainment, Vanessa Piazza, has forged a multi-year producing partnership with Entertainment One (eOne). As per the deal, the LOST GIRL and DARK MATTER producer will develop her forthcoming television projects under the eOne umbrella.
Currently, Piazza is developing an adaptation of the comic book mini-series CROSSWIND published by Image Comics. Written by the legendary Gail Simone with art conjured by the unbeatable Cat Staggs, CROSSWIND is widely hailed as FREAKY FRIDAY meets GOODFELLAS.
The plot centers on Carson, a conniving hitman, and Juniper, a Seattle housewife who's had just about enough of … well, everything, really. After crossing paths with a mysterious vagrant, both Carson and Juniper switch bodies, leaving both characters to cope with the each other's circumstances and substantial woes. As the series continues, both Carson and Juniper adopt a "ride or die" mentality about their bodily switcharoo, and work together to make certain that things don't get too out of hand.
In addition to writing the pilot, Simone will also executively produce alongside Ari Lubet and 3Arts Entertainment. Meanwhile, CROSSWIND co-creator Cat Staggs, who provides the stark and stylish art for the comic, will serve as a consulting producer for the show.
If I may, I am overly hyped about this one! The CROSSWIND mini-series is one of my favorite limited comic book runs of 2017, and I can't wait to see what Simone, Staggs, and Piazza have planned for this hilariously dark tale of supernatural shenanigans and delightfully satisfying acts of revenge. Do yourself a favor, and snag yourself a copy of the trade paperback. After you read it, pass it on to a friend. I guarantee you'll be laughing your asses off while enjoying one of the smartest comics of the year.
