Who knew that this was the path that Jon Stewart would take? Parts in HALF BAKED and BIG DADDY always made me love Stewart, no matter how big or small. Then when THE DAILY SHOW slowly but surely started its rise to the top, we got a different side to the actor and a great one, I might add.
All the ass kissing aside, it was certainly intriguing to hear that Stewart was taking on the role of director and script writer for ROSEWATER. The story is adapted from Maziar Bahari’s 2011 novel, “Then They Came For Me: A Family’s Story of Love, Captivity and Survival”. Gael Garcia Bernal (THE SCIENCE OF SLEEP, THE MOTORCYCLE DIARIES) has been cast in the leading role.
The true story follows, “Bahari (Bernal), a journalist who leaves his pregnant fiancée behind in London while he travels to Iran to spend a week covering the country’s presidential elections. Instead, he winds up spending 118 days in a notorious Iranian prison where he is brutally interrogated by a man whose defining characteristic is the smell of rosewater. In a twist of fate, Bahari’s appearance on “The Daily Show” was used against him when he was accused of being a spy.”
Stewart will take off 12-weeks from THE DAILY SHOW to shoot the film. Correspondent John Oliver has hosting duties until Stewart’s return.
