FX orders a third season of What We Do in the Shadows

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

I haven't watched any episodes of the first season of the FX television series What We Do in the Shadows yet, so I haven't been tuning in for the currently-airing second season – but I'm not so far out of the loop on this show that I'm not aware that it has a lot of adoring fans. I've heard the word of mouth that it's hilarious and one of the best shows on TV. So it's not surprising to me that FX has officially renewed What We Do in the Shadows for a third season.

A spin-off from Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi's horror-comedy mockumentary film of the same title, What We Do in the Shadows centers on

three vampires who live together: Laszlo (Matt Berry), Nadja (Natasia Demetriou), and Nandor (Kayvan Novak) — the former two are husband and wife. Also living with them is a fourth vampire named Colin Robinson (Mark Proksch), who’s an “energy vampire.” Instead of blood, he sucks the energy out of his victims by boring them to death with mundane anecdotes and bad jokes. The office is his feeding ground, but his powers also work on his vampire roomies.

While the initial airings of the first season's episodes averaged 467,000 viewers, the average for season 2 is 462,000 viewers – but that's only about 15% percent of the show's actual audience. Delayed and multiplatform viewings boost the view count up to 3.2 million, which is a 25% increase over season 1's viewership.

Clement and Waititi are executive producers on the show, along with Scott Rudin, Garrett Basch, Eli Bush, Stefani Robinson, and showrunner Paul Simms.
