Fans of FX's What We Do in the Shadows TV series will be pleased to know that the comedy series has been renewed for a third season, which means that we've got another year of vampire shenanigans following the nightly mis-adventures of Nandor (Kayvan Novak), Nadja (Natasia Demetriou), Laszlo (Matt Berry), and Colin Robinson (Mark Proksch), not to mention their human familiar, Guillermo (Harvey Guillén), to look forward to.
In a statement, Nick Grad, President of Original Programming at FX Entertainment, said, "We're incredibly happy that critics and audiences are all in on Shadows. Week in and week out, the producers, writers and our amazing cast continue to make one of the funniest and best comedy series on TV." The series has been receiving rave reviews, and ratings have risen throughout the current second season, which follows the vampires as they "try to find their way in a world of human Super Bowl parties, internet trolls, an energy vampire who gets a promotion and becomes drunk on power and of course, all the ghosts, witches, necromancers, zombies and shadowy cloaked assassins who roam freely in the Tri-State area. Is Guillermo destined to be a vampire or a vampire hunter? Or maybe just a familiar for the rest of his life?" Much like the first season, the second season of What We Do in the Shadows has featured more than a few celebrity cameos, including Mark Hamill (STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER), who played a vengeful vampire from Laszlo's past. For Hamill, it was a dream come true as he's a huge fan of both the original movie and the TV series.
When I heard they were making a TV series, I thought I needed to lower my expectations. Neither Taika nor Jemaine was going to be acting in it, but I heard they were behind it so I remained hopeful. We saw the pilot and, not only was it on par with the film, but it added elements that I had never heard before like the addition of the energy vampire. The whole cast is one of the best ensembles in television history. I would've been happy just visiting the set, they certainly didn't need me to come in and mess it up somehow. But I thought I would check out the script and see what they had in mind. I expected the role to be like the next door neighbor or someone who works at the Department of Motor Vehicles. When I read I was going to play a vampire, I just about shot out of my chair. What a great honor!
What We Do in the Shadows will return with a new episode on May 27th on FX at 10pm ET/PT. In "Collaboration," Nandor’s old familiar from the 1970s returns to Staten Island, Guillermo leaves to serve a new master, and Nadja and Lazslo revive their musical act.
