Furiosa: Anya Taylor-Joy, Chris Hemsworth to star in Mad Max spinoff

Word has reached the wasteland that Warner Bros. is going ahead with Furiosa, a spinoff feature of George Miller's multi-Oscar winning smash MAD MAX: FURY ROAD. Miller will direct Anya Taylor-Joy as a young Furiosa for the film, who'll be joined by Chris Hemsworth and Yahya Abdul Mateen II for the highly-anticipated excursion into an apocalyptic world. In addition to his directorial duties, Miller will also co-write and produce, alongside his producing partner Doug Mitchell.

The standalone movie will unveil the origin of Furiosa and the events leading up to her fateful meeting with Max Rockatansky in Fury Road. Miller co-wrote the script with MAD MAX: FURY ROAD writer Nico Lathouris.

As the story goes, Miller and Lathouris are said to have crafted origin stories for every character during their prep for MAD MAX: FURY ROAD. Little is known about Furiosa when she's introduced, beyond her being a war captain under the tyrannical Immortan Joe. When push comes to shove, Furiosa betrays her ruler by escaping with a group of young women to the open road. Once there, she forms an alliance with Max Rockatansky, as played by Tom Hardy. What happens next is a visual spectacle beyond compare in the realm of high-octane action films.

Everyone needs a film project that they can be excited about, and I'll be damned if Furiosa doesn't have my blood pumping right now. Taylor-Joy has proven herself time and again to be a talented actress whose star continues to rise, and then you add Hemsworth and Mateen II to the mix? That's a hell of a casting call right out of the gate and I can only guess that today's news is just the tip of a very large iceberg for this spinoff.

We will definitely be bringing you more details as Furiosa continues to rev-up so be sure to stay tuned.
