Here’s a pleasant surprise: the trailer for WARM BODIES – once threatened to be “Twilight with zombies”, is actually rather amusing and charming. Telling the tale of a zombie who finds love with a human, it looks to mine the same humor in the shambling undead that ZOMBIELAND did. Except now the zombies have feelings, talk and drive.
If nothing else, you have to give it points for featuring a cameo of Lucio Fulci’s ZOMBIE on Blu-ray.
WARM BODIES comes from 50/50 director Jonathan Levine (who also brought us – well, a few of us – ALL THE BOYS LOVE MANDY LANE) and stars Nicolas Hoult, Teresa Palmer, Rob Corddry, John Malkovich, Analeigh Tipton, Dave Franco and Cory Hardrict.
The synopsis: R (Hoult) is a zombie. After a zombie apocalypse, he shambles across an America filled with collapsed buildings, rusted cars, shattered windows, and abandoned high-rises. He can only grunt or moan and craves human brains to get high on their memories. After eating the brains of a suicidal teen, R is overcome with love for the teen’s companion, Julie Grigio (Palmer). R rescues Julie from his zombie pack and takes her back to his lair. She eventually leaves, and R follows her back to Citi Stadium, the largest remaining human refuge.
WARM BODIES hits theaters on FEBRUARY 1st.
