I've got to be honest, Ice Cube comedies are not my thing. Nothing against the guy, but the last movie I enjoyed him in was FRIDAY, which I consider a classic (shit, that might be the last time I enjoyed Chris Tucker in a movie as well). Since then, he's been on a bit of an Adam Sandler-esque journey, which may yield a lot of money, but not much in the way of accolades. However, having comedian Kevin Hart in your action/comedy flick isn't a bad start and that's the sell of RIDE ALONG. I fully expected to remain stone-faced throughout the trailer, but Hart's antics actually got some audible laughs and left me with a better impression of the film. Let's see if it does the same for you.
I'm more of a shotgun specialist:
Here's the synopsis:
Fast-talking security guard Ben joins his cop brother-in-law James on a 24-hour patrol of Atlanta in order to prove himself worthy of marrying Angela, James' sister.
I mean, let's face it, this is junk food comedy, but every now and again we crave some junk food, am I right? Some of it is better than others, though, and this looks to be ripe with a few good laughs, even if it's just Hart doing his schtick. It may not be BAD BOYS, but it still looks like a decent enough romp on a slow movie weekend. Or Netflix. Choice is yours.
RIDE ALONG hits theaters on January 17, 2014.
