Back in August of last year we brought you the teaser for CHILD OF GOD, director James Franco's adaptation of Cormac McCarthy's story of the same name, and today we have the full bloody trailer and the poster for this lurid descent into madness and murder.
I've always felt that McCarthy's novel fit squarely into the 'horror' genre as it ventured into some dark and disturbing places. I'm talking serial killing, necrophilia, isolation, violent depravity, the works. McCarthy is no stranger to darker and bleak stories, having written NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN and 2009's THE ROAD. Hopefully this adaptation will retain most of the source materials darker elements to deliver the same shocking experience for viewers that many readers experienced when they cracked the book open.
A dispossessed, violent man who's life is a disastrous attempt to exist outside the social order. Successively deprived of parents and homes and with few other ties, Ballard descends literally and figuratively to the level of a cave dweller as he falls deeper into crime and degradation.
On top of directing, Franco co-wrote the screenplay with Vince Jolivette and has a role in the film, though the lead belongs to Scott Haze, playing Lester Ballard, a dispossessed, violent man whom the narrator describes as "a child of God much like yourself perhaps." The film also stars Jim Parrack and Tim Blake Nelson.
The film's handler, Spotlight Pictures, still hasn’t revealed a date for the film’s theatrical/VOD release, but one imagines that such an announcement will arrive in the near future.
