Full trailer for Onward teases Pixar’s newest original, magical adventure

Audiences sure do love their INCREDIBLES and TOY STORY sequels, but you have to admit, there is something magical about Pixar releasing a new, original movie. The animation studio will be kicking off 2020 with their new adventure story, ONWARD, and in the new trailer they dropped for the movie, we get to see Tom Holland and Chris Pratt going on the most magical of quests in hopes of getting to see their dad once again. Across the way, they have to take on biker fairies, vicious dragon creatures, the typical “running out of gas” bit, and all while pulling off their own version of a WEEKEND AT BERNIES. Road trips, amiright?

With far more details than the previous teaser, we see more of the mythical world that’s been soiled by modern trappings, giving the brothers a taste of old-school magic after they find a wizard’s staff. This last decade has seen Pixar release 11 movies (starting with TOY STORY 3), but only four of them have been originals (BRAVE, INSIDE OUT, THE GOOD DINOSAUR, COCO), with the rest being sequels to movies they made in the 90s and 00s. But next year will see not one, but two original movies from them (including SOUL), and it’s nice to see from this trailer they’re getting back to storytelling within a unique world.

ONWARD also has the voices of Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Octavia Spencer, and Dan Scanlon returns to direct after helming MONSTERS UNIVERSITY back in 2013. Only time will tell if the movie is more THE GOOD DINOSAUR or more INSIDE OUT, but it looks undeniably fun and will at the very least sport some terrific animation and a hefty dose of heart

Here's the synopsis:

Set in a suburban fantasy world, Disney and Pixar’s “Onward” introduces two teenage elf brothers who embark on an extraordinary quest to discover if there is still a little magic left out there. Pixar Animation Studios’ all-new original feature film is directed by Dan Scanlon and produced by Kori Rae—the team behind “Monsters University.”

ONWARD is in theaters on March 6, 2020.
