Just over seven years ago, Synapse Films gave director Scott Spiegel's 1989 slasher classic INTRUDER a Blu-ray/DVD combo release with some great bonus features. Copies of that release can still be purchased on Amazon. INTRUDER was executive produced by Full Moon founder Charles Band, whose pre-Full Moon company Empire Pictures handled the film's theatrical release. To mark the 30th anniversary of that release, Full Moon has now released a new DVD edition of INTRUDER, "remastered from the original camera negative".
Starring Elizabeth Cox, Danny Hicks, David Byrnes, Renee Estevez, Burr Steers, Sam Raimi, and Ted Raimi, with a cameo by Bruce Campbell, INTRUDER has the following synopsis:
It's 10pm. The night before Walnut Lake's neighborhood supermarket closes its doors forever. The owners and night crew have a long shift ahead of them… longer than they think! Ace check-out girl Jennifer has a deranged ex-boyfriend who's fresh out of prison. When he appears outside, weird things start happening. The phone lines are cut, and the night crew starts dying… one by one, in the most gruesome ways imaginable.
INTRUDER is an awesome film with an eccentric shooting style and a strong sense of humor, and in its unrated cut, which is on both the Synapse release and this Full Moon release, sports some incredible gore courtesy of KNB. This movie contains some of the best slasher kills ever.
While I think the Synapse release is still the one to get, the Full Moon should still be worth the $14.95 price it's going for at FullMoonDirect.com. It doesn't appear to have any bonus features, but the movie alone is worth that much.
The 30th anniversary DVD's case art does have some mistakes in the description on the back. It credits the role of Jennifer to Estevez, when the character is actually played by Cox, then it talks about a subplot with an ex-cop that is not in the movie… I don't know if that decreases or increases its value as a collectible.
Full Moon also has the remastered edition of INTRUDER available to watch through their Amazon Prime channel.
