Ahead of its August 30 premiere, Amazon Prime Video has unveiled a full-length trailer for CARNIVAL ROW, the streamer's upcoming series set in a Victorian fantasy world filled with mythological immigrant creatures whose exotic homelands were invaded by the empires of man. This growing population struggles to coexist with humans — forbidden to live, love, or fly with freedom. But even in darkness, hope lives, as a human detective, Rycroft Philostrate (Bloom), and a refugee faerie named Vignette Stonemoss (Delevingne) rekindle a dangerous affair despite an increasingly intolerant society. Vignette harbors a secret that endangers Philo’s world during his most important case yet: a string of gruesome murders threatening the uneasy peace of the Row.
Leading the high fantasy epic are Orlando Bloom (PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN franchise) and Cara Delevingne (SUICIDE SQUAD, VALERIAN AND THE CITY OF A THOUSAND PLANETS), who will be joined by Jared Harris, Jamie Harris, Andrew Gower, Waj Ali, Leanne Best, Maeve Dermody, Arty Froushan, Tamzin Merchant, Scott Reid, Anna Rust, Indira Varma, Tracey Wilkinson, and James Beaumont, among others, for the series.
In late July, it was announced that CARNIVAL ROW has already been renewed by Amazon for a second season, weeks before the show has had a chance to debut. The series is based on Travis Beacham’s feature script “A Killing on Carnival Row,” which has Beacham and Bloom executive producing alongside Marc Guggenheim, René Echevarria, and Jon Amiel. The series is a collaboration between Amazon Studios and Legendary.
The show boasts a diverse cast of talent, each looking to help bring the broken streets of Carnival Row to life on the small screen. Despite taking place in a world filled with fantastical creatures, CARNIVAL ROW looks to be delivering a poignant and timely story that resonates with today's tragic tales of immigration law and those being forced away from their families and friends.
CARNIVAL ROW will premiere on Amazon Prime Video August 30, the same day as THE DARK CRYSTAL: AGE OF RESISTANCE makes its Netflix debut. In other words, you'll have your pick of high fantasy spectacles by this month's end, alongside a brand-new Tool album, titled "Fear Inoculum." That last bit isn't relevant to CARNIVAL ROW in any way, but I'm in charge of this article, and dammit, I'll take any and all opportunities to shout that record's release date from the rooftops. Enjoy your August 30th, everybody. I know I will. Spiral out and keep going.
