In 2014, Marvel Studios unleashed the film that seemed like the first real gamble in their freight train of superhero blockbusters, GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY. A space opera that features a talking raccoon and a humanoid tree as lead characters seemed like such an out there concept, it was only fitting that James Gunn (SLITHER, SUPER) was picked to direct it. Most of the skeptics were won over by the dazzling visuals, rapid fire humour, incredible retro soundtrack and a surprising amount of heart, and the film was incredibly successful, loved the world over.
While not as prolific or iconic as fellow Marvel characters Thor, Iron Man, Captain America or Hulk, the Guardians of the Galaxy still have a lot of history that dates back decades in comic book lore. So for this installment of From Page to Screen, we take a look back on the histories of the five main characters from the film, along with its primary antagonist Ronan the Accuser, and delve into the influences and origins of GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY!
