In anticipation of BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE we're taking a look back at some of the Batfilms that came before, starting with director Tim Burton's one-two punch of BATMAN and BATMAN RETURNS Relive the magic of his two films as we examine their legacy and the comic book roots both films stemmed from, including the comic book origins of Batman, Joker, Penguin, Catwoman, and more. The '89 BATMAN was the first to show the Caped Crusader in a new cinematic light (a huge leap from the '60's TV Show), while BATMAN RETURNS got decidedly darker, making for a less than successful follow up that led to both Keaton and Burton leaving the franchise. Both films have continued to be a staple in the Batman cinematic legacy with RETURNS gaining a kind of cult appreciation over the years.
