Who says horror is not popular these days? MAMA hit the top of the box office this weekend and Screen Media Ventures, LLC, owner of Popcornflix, announced the launch of FrightPIX, the company’s second free, ad-supported digital channel according to The Street.
Like Popcornflix, FrightPIX is ad supported and free to the viewer. The new channel boasts a wide range of horror genres, including Creature Features, Slashers, Splatters, Zombie movies, Supernatural flicks, Creepy, Cult, Demon and Gothic categories.
The company also announced the launch of a new horror label, Screen Media Darkside to assist with content for the digital channel. Gary Delfiner, President of Screen Media Digital, a division of Screen Media Ventures, LLC said: “We’re very excited to launch our second digital movie platform…The horror genre is a great niche with many devoted fans, and we expect the channel to be extremely popular!”. Sir, you’re correct, they’re many fans out there dying for more content and this is a no-brainer.
The launch of Screen Media Darkside was first announced at the Toronto Film Festival in September and they have been quite busy making slashers like HOME SWEET HOME and the thriller THE EXPELLED.
What do you think about this digital channel…Yay or nay?
