On the previous episode of our video series Horror TV Shows We Miss, we took a look back at the Nightmare on Elm Street series Freddy’s Nightmares – so what better choice could there be to follow that up with than Friday the 13th: The Series? In the video embedded above, we dig into this show that only shares a title with the Friday the 13th film franchise. While Freddy’s Nightmares was hosted by Freddy Krueger himself, Friday the 13th: The Series has no connection to Jason Voorhees, which is why it’s written off completely by a lot of horror fans. But we think it’s worth checking out anyway, and it’s one of the shows we miss.
Friday the 13th: The Series ran for three seasons and a total of 72 episodes. The set-up:
Micki Foster is the lucky niece who inherits an antique store from her Uncle Lewis. But this is no ordinary antique shop. Lewis made a deal with the devil – in exchange for material wealth, he will sell cursed antiques. Micki, along with cousin Ryan and her partner, retired magician Jack, have the duty of recovering the antiques to be sealed in their basement, where the items can’t cause more harm.
The show starred Louise Robey, John D. LeMay (who would go on to play a different character in Jason Goes to Hell), Chris Wiggins, Steve Monarque, R.G. Armstrong, and Elias Zarou.
The Horror TV Shows We Miss series is all about taking a
nostalgic look back at the genre series that marked us while growing up and that helped shape our love of horror today.
This episode was Written and Narrated by Niki Minter, Edited by Mike Sprague, Produced by John Fallon, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.
In addition to Freddy’s Nightmares, previous episodes of Horror TV Shows We Miss have covered the classic shows MonsterVision, Twin Peaks, Tales from the Crypt, and The X-Files.
