I still don't have my own copy of Friday the 13th: The Game, but while watching that situation from afar I have been impressed by how frequently the game's developers have been adding new content. And the content they add tends to be really cool as well – not included at first, the Jason of FRIDAY THE 13TH: THE FINAL CHAPTER is now part of the game, as is the Jarvis family cabin he stalked around in that film and the vacation home across the way where a batch of victims were staying. Fox from FRIDAY THE 13TH PART III has been added as a playable character, as has a counselor named Mitch Floyd… who happens to look just like the stoner Chuck from PART III.
A character from the films who has been part of the game from the start is Tommy Jarvis, the hero of THE FINAL CHAPTER, FRIDAY THE 13TH: A NEW BEGINNING, and JASON LIVES: FRIDAY THE 13TH PART VI. JASON LIVES actor Thom Mathews even returned to the role for the game.
The latest update to the game expands the presence of Tommy Jarvis even further. This update is the addition of The Jarvis Tapes, collectible audio recordings that have been hidden around the maps. What's especially cool about these tapes is that the content on them was written by HATCHET maker Adam Green.
Speaking with Bloody-Disgusting, the game's co-creator Wes Keltner had this to say about working with Green on The Jarvis Tapes:
We became friends with Adam Green through Kane (Hodder) a while back and wanted to find a way to work together. We think what he’s doing for horror is pretty special and he’s a sharp guy, and has a strong literary pen to boot. With the fandom around the Pamela Tapes we thought it would be interesting to dive into the character of Tommy Jarvis too. That’s when we sat down with Adam and started one of those awesome horror conversations that only nerds like us have. ‘So Tommy Jarvis… we’ve seen that character as a kid, troubled late teens and then in his twenties through the films… but there’s gaps, right? Lets fill those!’ We along with Adam were giddy as school children when kicking these stories around. He really ran with it and came back with an incredible story that we all loved. We quickly fired up our voice-over partners and went to work recording this character narrative."
As Keltner mentions, there are already collectible audio recordings in the game called The Pamela Tapes, which were written by JASON LIVES writer/director Tom McLoughlin and delve further into the character of Jason's mother, Pamela Voorhees.
As of the latest update, there are thirteen Jarvis Tapes hidden throughout the game, so be sure to keep an eye out for them as you play.
