Friday the 13th reboot eyes V/H/S director David Bruckner to helm the horror

It’s been a while since we’ve heard from ol’ Jason Voorhees, who was last seen in the rather ho-hum attempt at a reboot with 2009’s FRIDAY THE 13TH from director Marcus Nispel, which has been threatening a sequel ever since. However, it appears that Paramount and Platinum Dunes are moving in another direction and instead rebooting the franchise…again. The Wrap is reporting that THE SIGNAL (2007) and V/H/S segment director David Bruckner is in negotiations to head back to Camp Crystal Lake in order to revive our favorite psychopath with a hockey mask and a machete.

Plot details are under wraps, but it’s been widely speculated that this new reboot would be a “found footage” version of the long-running franchise, which would make sense given Bruckner’s style, particularly in his V/H/S segment “Amateur Night.” It’s also been speculated that the new reboot may not even feature Jason, at least not in his most well-known form (remember the very first 1980 film didn’t feature him in “hockey mask” form either). The speculation will continue until an official plot is revealed, but fans can rest assured that a new version is on the way regardless.

Personally, I think going the found footage route could really work for the franchise. With twelve films already in the bag (if counting FREDDY VS. JASON and the latest reboot), I think the door is wide open for a little change up. Why not put one of the best movie villains into a genre style that seems to be working? I could see it working, but as a mild horror fan, I won’t pretend to be the spokesperson for how it should be done.

What do you think? Is Bruckner a good fit for the job? Are you down for a found footage version of the franchise?

FRIDAY THE 13TH will ch-ch-ch-ka-ka-ka into theaters on Friday, March 13, 2015.
