Paramount is sticking with their plan to give the Friday the 13th movies they released in the 1980s 40th anniversary steelbook Blu-ray releases. Back in February 2020, we heard the steelbook release of the original Friday the 13th was on the way, and you can pick that up HERE. Last February, word came out that Friday the 13th Part 2 was getting its steelbook release. You can buy that one at THIS LINK. Now the folks at Fridaythe13thFranchise.com have confirmed that Friday the 13th Part III is getting a steelbook Blu-ray release on May 10th. An image of the steelbook can be seen at the bottom of this article.
Directed by Steve Miner from a screenplay by Martin Kitrosser and Carol Watson (with some uncredited polishing by Petru Popescu), Friday the 13th Part III has the following synopsis:
The third installment in the “Friday the 13th” series picks up on the day after the carnage with homicidal maniac Jason Voorhees stealing some clothes and killing a local store owner. Meanwhile, Chris and her sometimes boyfriend, Rick, are hosting a group of teenage friends at Chris’ lake house. Despite a run-in with a local biker gang, they enjoy an amiable weekend together — that is, until Jason begins knocking off kids and bikers alike.
The film stars Dana Kimmell, Paul Kratka, Tracie Savage, Jeffrey Rogers, Catherine Parks, Larry Zerner, David Katims, Rachel Howard, Nick Savage, Gloria Charles, Kevin O’Brien, Cheri Maugans, Steve Susskind, and David Wiley, with Richard Brooker as Jason Voorhees.
Known for being released in 3D and being the film where Jason first puts on a hockey mask, Friday the 13th Part III is my favorite entry in the franchise. The location is cool, Brooker was a great Jason, the hockey mask is nice and new, and it all builds up to an awesome extended chase sequence.
That said, I won’t be getting this steelbook because I already have plenty of copies of this movie, including the one that came in the Scream Factory franchise box set. (That set can still be purchased HERE.)
There weren’t any Friday the 13th movies released in 1983. Will Paramount release the Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter steelbook a year early, or will they wait for the 40th anniversary in 2024? We’ll have to wait and see.
