Friday the 13th (1980) gets a 4K UHD release this September

Today is the only Friday the 13th in 2022, but Paramount Pictures is planning to bring Friday the 13th franchise fans a special treat on September 13th of this year. That’s the day they’ll be giving the original, 1980 classic Friday the 13th a 4K UHD release! Amazon is now accepting pre-orders for the 4K UHD, which is going for the price of $25.99.

Here’s the information:

The terrifying first FRIDAY THE 13TH that launched the iconic horror movie franchise comes to 4K UHD! The thrills start when the new owner, and several young counselors, gather to reopen Camp Crystal Lake. Years ago, a young boy named Jason Voorhees drowned, and a series of vicious murders occurred thereafter. Despite locals’ warnings that the place has a “death curse,” the new crew continues to relaunch the camp. One by one, they find out how unlucky Friday the 13th can be as they are stalked by a violent killer. For those who dare for an extended scare, both the “Unrated” and theatrical cuts are included

Directed by Sean S. Cunningham from a screenplay by Victor Miller, Friday the 13th stars Betsy Palmer, Adrienne King, Harry Crosby, Laurie Bartram, Mark Nelson, Jeannine Taylor, Robbi Morgan, Kevin Bacon, Peter Brouwer, Rex Everhart, Ronn Carroll, Walt Gorney, Willie Adams, Debra S. Hayes, Sally Anne Golden, and Ari Lehman.

Scream Factory released a full Friday the 13th franchise box set a couple years ago (and that set can still be purchased HERE), but while some of the movies received 4K scans, they weren’t released on 4K discs. That box set was standard Blu-ray only. I don’t have 4K capabilities, so that Blu-ray set is fine with, but I’m glad Friday the 13th is getting this 4K UHD release for fans who do enjoy the format.
