Legendary Entertainment’s thriller Fresh won’t be making its world premiere until the virtual Sundance Film Festival later this month, but Searchlight Pictures has already acquired the worldwide rights to the film. Their plan is to release Fresh as an Original film on the Hulu streaming service in the United States on March 4th. The international release will follow later in the spring, when Fresh will be made available on Star+ in Latin America and Disney+ in all other territories.
The feature directorial debut of Mimi Cave, the film was written by Lauryn Kahn and stars Daisy Edgar-Jones (Normal People) and Sebastian Stan (Captain America: The Winter Soldier). The story follows
Noa (Daisy Edgar-Jones), who meets the alluring Steve (Sebastian Stan) at a grocery store and – given her frustration with dating apps – takes a chance and gives him her number. After their first date, Noa is smitten and accepts Steve’s invitation to a romantic weekend getaway. Only to find that her new paramour has been hiding some unusual appetites.
Searchlight Presidents Matthew Greenfield and David Greenbaum released the following statement:
Fresh upends all romance tropes and boldly comments on the precarious nature of the modern dating experience. Mimi Cave has brilliantly brought Lauryn Kahn’s razor sharp script to the screen, and gives audiences something they will savor from beginning to end.”
Cave added:
Fresh is a wildly allegorical story, yet the film carries strings of truth throughout that I hope resonate for different audiences. I’m so pleased to be working with the Searchlight team to bring our film to the world and can’t wait for people to see the brilliant performances Daisy and Sebastian give.”
Edgar-Jones and Stan are joined in the cast by Jojo T. Gibbs (Twenties), Charlotte Le Bon (The Hundred-Foot Journey), Andrea Bang (Luce), and Dayo Okeniyi (The Spectacular Now).
I like the sound of that plot synopsis and I am a fan of Sebastian Stan, so I’m looking forward to watching Fresh.
