FredHeads, a documentary about the fan following of the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise (sort of like the Evil Dead fanbase documentary Hail to the Deadites), has been a long time coming. We previously wrote about it back in January of 2018! But now it’s finally ready to make its way out into the world, having premiered at the HorrorHound Weekend convention in Cincinnati, Ohio this past September. The documentary has been acquired for distribution by BayView Entertainment, and they are planning to release it internationally for purchase on February 14, 2023.
Along with the release date announcement, BayView Entertainment has provided a trailer for FredHeads, and you can watch that in the embed above.
Directed by Paige Troxell and Kim Gunzinger, this documentary follows a group whose friendships were formed and molded by A Nightmare on Elm Street. They venture out to share the stories of other fans of all ages from around the world whose lives were also changed by the horror film franchise.
Troxell had this to say about the project: “This has been an incredible journey. I feel so incredibly honored that I get to share these stories of how each of us have used these films to face our own nightmares. FredHeads to me is ultimately the story of survival, and how a franchise can be more than just a film.“
Gunzinger added: “FredHeads is more than recording fan stories but exploring the impact of a franchise and whether the obsession over its main character is an unhealthy addiction or brings ‘family’ closer together.“
And BayView Entertainment’s Peter Castro said, “We’re really excited to bring Freddy back on February 14th . This is a franchise that means so much to so many different people and we’re happy that we get to help deliver those stories to the world.“
The press release notes that, “in addition to convention footage and online submissions, the film also features
testimonials from Elm Street alumni including Lisa Wilcox, Toy Newkirk, Andras Jones, Miko Hughes, and more.”
