The doctor is back… again. Deadline has reported that Paramount+ has given a green light to the Frasier sequel series starring Kelsey Grammer, who will once again be playing the psychiatrist-turned-radio host Frasier Crane.

The Frasier sequel series has been in the works for quite some time, with Paramount+ announcing that it was in development last year. “Having spent over 20 years of my creative life on the Paramount lot, both producing shows and performing in several, I’d like to congratulate Paramount+ on its entry into the streaming world,” said Kelsey Grammer in a statement at the time. “I gleefully anticipate sharing the next chapter in the continuing journey of Dr. Frasier Crane.” Today’s news means that the project has officially been picked up to series. Frasier remains one of my favourite sitcoms, and while I’m keeping my expectations for the sequel series in check, I’m excited to see where it takes Dr. Crane. Just give me one dinner party gone awry and I’ll be happy.

Plot details are still being kept under wraps, but the new series will focus on the next chapter of Frasier Crane’s life in a different city. While Grammer has previously said that he wanted the entire original cast back, it seems that they won’t be series regulars as Frasier is expected to be involved with a group of new characters this time around. So while we may not see Niles (David Hyde Pierce), Daphne (Jane Leeves), and Roz (Peri Gilpin) returning full-time, they could put in guest appearances. The number of episodes for the Frasier sequel series hasn’t been confirmed, but Deadline hears that it will likely consist of ten episodes. Chris Harris (How I Met Your Mother) and Joe Cristalli (Life In Pieces) are set to write the series, and will also executive produce alongside Kelsey Grammer.
