After frequent rumours that Kelsey Grammer was considering a Frasier revival, it was announced earlier this year that Dr. Frasier Crane would indeed be returning for a brand-new series destined for the Paramount+ streaming service. “Having spent over 20 years of my creative life on the Paramount lot, both producing shows and performing in several, I’d like to congratulate Paramount+ on its entry into the streaming world,” said Kelsey Grammer in a statement. “I gleefully anticipate sharing the next chapter in the continuing journey of Dr. Frasier Crane.” Grammer said earlier this summer that they were still in the scripting stage but that he hoped the Frasier revival would be ready to go early next year.
While speaking with NBC’s Today, Kelsey Grammer provided a small update regarding the Frasier revival, revealing that they’re still talking with the original actors about returning.
We’re negotiating with everybody. We want everybody back, that’s my dream.
As far as “everybody” goes, that would include Niles (David Hyde Pierce), Daphne (Jane Leeves), and Roz (Peri Gilpin), but sadly not Martin as actor John Mahoney passed away several years ago. Although Grammer clearly wants the other actors to come back, he does say that they have “alternative ideas and scenarios” for the Frasier revival should one, or more, of the actors decline the opportunity. Although nothing has been confirmed, Grammer said that he “just hope[s] they all want to join us.“
Despite the familiar faces who may or may not be joining the Frasier revival, Kelsey Grammer has previously teased that when the series does return, audiences should be prepared for a different version. “We’ll see how people respond to it, because it’s not gonna be the same place, not gonna be Seattle, it’s not gonna be the same Frasier, it’s gonna be the man in his next iteration. Hopefully that’ll be something people like watching,” he said, adding that the revival will be about “his search for love, for one thing, I think that will always go on with Frasier, but [also] a connection with his son.“
