It’s been twenty years since Frasier and Roz last shared the screen, but the former KACL producer is returning for the season finale of the Paramount+ series.
While speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Peri Gilpin discussed stepping back into her iconic character. “I just loved getting to do it,” Gilpin said. “It was a fantasy come true to play that part again and to go back into that world.” The actress added, “[Roz and Frasier] had a great, great friendship and both of them needed that friendship. I think he was like her older brother and she could always go to him. And those friendships are very, very hard to come by, you realize.“
As for what she thinks Roz has been up to over the last twenty years, Gilpin believes her character would have remained in the world of radio. “I think she’s been in radio and the thing I know about the world of radio through my dad’s work is that you kind of bounce around,” she said. “So I would imagine she was in Seattle a lot of the time at the station, but I imagine she probably did other things. She’s probably been producing and maybe she did a show of her own. That was one of her dreams.“
Gilpin continued, “I would imagine that Sirius, the world of that radio would be very attractive to her, but she was raising a daughter. So once you sort of settle someplace, you kind of stay put for a while. I think she’s been dating. I think she’s been having a lot of fun, traveling, wearing gorgeous clothes, enjoying herself.” While Gilpin is only set to return as Roz for the Frasier finale, she’s open to turning it into a more regular role “if that’s a possibility.“
In addition to Kelsey Grammer, Frasier also stars Jack Cutmore-Scott as Frasier’s son, Freddy; Nicholas Lyndhurst as Frasier’s old college buddy turned university professor, Alan; Toks Olagundoye as Alan’s colleague and head of the university psychology department, Olivia; Jess Salguerio as Freddy’s roommate, Eve; and Anders Keith as Frasier’s nephew, David, son of Niles and Daphne. The Frasier season finale will debut on Paramount+ on December 7th.
