Frankie Muniz doesn't do a whole lot of acting these days, and in recent years most of his movie and TV show appearances have been as himself, but he does have the lead role in director Brian Hanson's upcoming film THE BLACK STRING. This looks to be an STD horror story along the lines of IT FOLLOWS, where sex with the wrong person unleashes evil forces.
Written by Hanson, Richard Handley, and Andy Warrener, THE BLACK STRING has the following synopsis:
Jonathan is a lonely twenty-something, stuck in his home town working night shifts at the local convenience store. When an unexpected encounter with a mysterious woman turns his life upside down, Jonathan is stricken by illness and nightmarish visions. Paranoid and desperate, he launches on a quest across the suburbs to find the seductress who started it all. Friends and family believe he's losing his mind, but Jonathan is convinced he's the target of something far more sinister.
While most viewers will probably be drawn to this one by the chance to see the guy from Malcolm in the Middle deal with a horrific situation, the cast member who catches my attention is Chelsea Edmundson, whose previous genre credits include KILLER EYE: HALLOWEEN HAUNT, DAYLIGHT'S END, 14 CAMERAS, and HOWLERS. I never watched Malcolm in the Middle, but I am an Edmundson fan.
Lionsgate will be releasing THE BLACK STRING on DVD, Digital, and VOD on September 24th.
