Every year we get a few little cinematic gems that stand out from all the explosions, asses (male and female), production value and plain ol’ shit. The new film from Martin McDonagh, THREE BILLBOARDS OUTSIDE EBBING, MISSOURI, about a woman trolling the local police to actually solve the murder of her daughter looks to be that film. It could be for nothing else except that it proves Frances McDormand can swear like a goddamn champ. Check out the red band trailer below if you don’t believe me! But you will believe me by the end. Oh…you’ll believe.
I laughed out loud a few times during this preview, and I have faith I’ll love it just as much as IN BRUGES and SEVEN PSYCHOPATHS. McDormand could be looking at the most Oscar attention she’s had since FARGO, and the rest of the cast including Sam Rockwell, Woody Harrelson and Peter Dinklage is lookin’ top notch too. A great cast, funny script and, in this case, a timely story can all make for one of the most talked about movies of the year, and I hope this can live up to that promise. Three cheers for cursing!
THREE BILLBOARDS is set to release sometime in 2017 (possibly in the fall).
