20th Century Fox is playing quite the game of release date shuffle today as they've made a number of changes to a handful of their upcoming blockbusters. Get out your calender's!
The first trailer for DARK PHOENIX, the next installment of the X-MEN franchise, was unveiled just two days ago, but it's already in need of an update as Fox has pushed the film from its February 14, 2019 release to June 7, 2019. GAMBIT, another X-MEN franchise film, previously held that date, but the much-delayed spin-off has been delayed yet again, moving all the way to March 13, 2020. That's obviously for the best as Reid Carolin and Joshua Zetumer are still working on the script and the project is still without a director. 20th Century Fox has also shuffled ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL from December 21, 2018 to February 14, 2019, where it will fill DARK PHOENIX's former slot. As December 21st is a prime date with several blockbusters battling it out, the studio wasn't about to leave their piece of the pie vacant, and it's been announced that they'll be releasing a UNTITLED DEADPOOL MOVIE on that date. Wait, what?
No other details on the DEADPOOL project were released, but it's been said that it will be a PG-13 version of DEADPOOL 2. Clearly 20th Century Fox hasn't quite gotten enough money out of the franchise, but it will be interesting to see what the film looks like with much of the vulgarity stripped away. It's also possible that there will be new footage as Ryan Reynolds teased fans by tweeting an image of Deadpool reading a story to Fred Savage in a nod to THE PRINCESS BRIDE.
What do you folks think? Are you down for a watered-down DEADPOOL 2 this winter?
