Back in July, when myself and other select members of the JoBlo crew invaded this year's San Diego Comic-Con, we were fortunate enough to interview the cast of Fox's new sci-fi series THE ORVILLE. While I admit to not having seen the show just yet, I remember that I loved the energy and passion for the program coming from the show's primary cast members. While I'm anxious to find the time to check it out, I am pleased to report that Fox has ordered a second season of the show created by FAMILY GUY's Seth MacFarlane. The pick-up happened after just seven episodes of the debut season's 13-episode run.
Now, because of the program's ornamented production and post-production, including its high-quality special effects, THE ORVILLE was meant to be presented as a limited season. With the renewal coming so early for the sophomore season follow-up, the cast and crew will have even more prep time to deliver a fresh, new season, of which the episode count has yet to be determined.
While expressing his enthusiasm for the success of the show thus far, Fox Entertainment president Michael Thorn stated, “Once again Seth has struck a powerful chord with viewers. He has delivered a series full of optimism, drama and his trademark humor. We want to thank him and the rest of the talented cast, as well as the producers and crew, for an incredible first season. We can’t wait to see where The Orville travels in the second.”
In regard to numbers, Deadline Hollywood is reporting that THE ORVILLE is averaging a 2.5 Live + 7 Day 18-49 rating, a +67% lift from Live + Same Day, and more than 10 million multi-platform viewers, +108% vs. Live + Same Day.
