Everything old is new again in the world of Fox. They’ve brought back THE X-FILES. They’re putting on performances of GREASE and THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW, and now they’re aiming to revive both the 24 and PRISON BREAK brand.
24 has received a pilot order for a new direction being dubbed 24: LEGACY, which would move onto an entirely different set of characters, leaving Kiefer Sutherland’s Jack Bauer to finally find some peace. The lead would be an African-American military hero who now must deal with some sort of trouble that is following him back to the States. He then teams up with our familiar CTU in order to stop a terrorist attack using the same 24-hour plot device that the series has always been built upon.
The character would be much different from Jack Bauer, giving the series something new to work with, but you can bet he’s going to be a bad-ass of his own making as it is almost required to deal with such a threat in this nature of show.
As for PRISON BREAK, that has a much firmer commitment from Fox, with an as-yet-to-be-determined number of episodes getting the green light from the network. Original stars Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell will reprise their roles as Michael Scofield and Lincoln Burrows, but the mystery remains as to what they’ll have to do next. As a fan of the show during its run on Fox, I can attest to the fact that the program got more and more ridiculous with its objective with each new season, and I can only hope they figure out some very creative and interesting way to make this return work rather than for only nostalgia’s sake.
No timeline has been given as to when fans might expect either show to make it to the airwaves, so, for now – tick tick tick – you’ll have to sit and wait patiently.
