Fox has no plans to bring back The X-Files

I've never been the world's biggest fan of THE X-FILES. Sure just like every other human being on the planet, with a strong stomach, I enjoyed the hell out of the episode HOME. But for the most part, I have never given the series its fair share of viewings. Oh, well. But if you are a fan of the series, you probably already know that star Gillian Anderson has said that this past 11th season is her last.

Anderson:

There are lots of things that I want to do in my life and career. It’s been an extraordinary opportunity. I’m extremely grateful. [But] I don’t want to be tied down to doing one thing for months and months… I like to be challenged as an actor. That’s why I got into this business. And it’s time for me to hang up Scully’s hat. This is it for me — I’m really serious.

And if that news wasn't enough of a blow to your gut, then you just might want to skip this next bit where Fox co-chairman and CEO Gary Newman basically says that there will be no more X-Files – at least not for a while.

Gary Newman: 

There are no plans to do another season at the moment. 

But maybe there isn't much to fear in the face of this news. After all, series creator Chris Carter seems to be more than a little optimistic that the series will continue on for years – in one form or another.

Chris Carter: 

I can’t imagine there wouldn’t be more X-Files, in some shape or form. I think there are lots more stories to tell and ways to tell them. I’m leaving this as a giant cliffhanger, and Gillian has announced that she’s not coming back. Hard-core X-Files fans know there have been no real endings on the show.

Are you personally upset by any or all of this news? You have my genuine sympathies if you are as I know that X-FILES fans are fucking hardcore about their favorite series. It sucks, but again, there is no telling when and where the show might pop up again. Keep your fingers crossed and your chin up.
