Fox developing a half hour sitcom based on the Tom Hanks classic Big

The 1988 comedy BIG represented a turning point in the career of Tom Hanks. Prior to BIG, Hanks was known for comedy and not serious dramatic roles. BIG afforded him the chance to stretch his acting muscles which would eventually turn him into one of the premier actors of his generation. Now, the Penny Marshall directed film, photographed by Barry Sonnenfeld, and written by Gary Ross, is becoming a FOX sitcom.

Deadline are reporting that ENLISTED creators Kevin Biegel and Mike Royce have sold a half hour sitcom to the network based on the film. While they did not indicate if the characters will remain the same or if the Zoltar machine will make an appearance, they did share this very vague logline for the show.

The series loosely based on the movie explores what it means to be an adult and what it means to be a kid, and how in today’s world those two things are more confused than ever.

So, take that for what it is worth, but now we have no idea if this will be like NBC series PARENTHOOD and ABOUT A BOY, which are loosely based on the films bearing the same titles, or if this really will be the same story. From that brief synopsis, it sounds like it will share a thematic connection and that is about it.

BIG is a favorite movie for a lot of people and it is now being added to the ever growing pile of television series based off of movies. It didn’t seem that long ago that we were all up in arms about Hollywood to set on turning TV into feature films. Today, the reverse seems to be the status quo.

If anything, I hope they go dark with it. Like this.
