In the new trailer for Epix's upcoming crime drama series, GODFATHER OF HARLEM, Forest Whitaker's Bumpy Johnson is looking to harness the American dream, and he's willing to do it by any means neccessary.
Based on true events, GODFATHER OF HARLEM centers on Bumpy Johnson, a gangster who after being locked up for a decade, comes home to a city that's been ravaged by the drug trade as well as those who rule the streets with an iron grip. Taking place in the 1960s, Bumpy clashes with Italian mobster Vincent Gigante (Vincent D'Onofrio), leader of the Genovese crime family. As if that's not enough, Bumpy also must contend with a fast-changing political climate, which includes the rise of figures the likes of Malcom X (Nigel Thatch) and Adam Clayton Powell Jr. (Giancarlo Esposito). With his future and place of power threatened when faced with Harlem's new movers and shakers, Bumpy will need to add some new tricks to his old school game if he hopes to take the city back and protect those he loves most dearly.
GODFATHER OF HARLEM also stars Sereene Brown, Lucy Fry, Demi Singleton, and Jamaal Burcher, among others. The series will premiere on Epix beginning on September 29 at 10 p.m. EST.
