The talent along with the roles they are coupled with are enough to build interest for THE BUTLER.
Lee Daniels’ next follows up his first two efforts: PRECIOUS and THE PAPERBOY. His third film seems to replicate PRECIOUS formula when it comes to amped up drama and possible Oscar buzz. This trailer reeks of both of those things. I think we have some potentially great performances here, along with some not so good ones. I’ll let you choose on your own who goes into what category. Regardless, I love most of the actors here. John Cusack as Nixon? Alan Rickman really looks like Ronald Reagan, right? Also, why am I so perplexed by my feelings for James Marsden’s take on JFK? Lafayette is Martin Luther King Jr.? Get a look at the trailer below.
Synopsis: THE BUTLER tells the story of a White House butler who served eight American presidents over three decades. The film traces the dramatic changes that swept American society during this time, from the civil rights movement to Vietnam and beyond, and how those changes affected this man’s life and family.
