The Flight Attendant: Kaley Cuoco thriller to take off for a second season

HBO Max has announced that a second season of The Flight Attendant starring Kaley Cuoco will take flight.

Originally conceived as a limited series, The Flight Attendant creator and executive producer Steve Yockey soon realized that his thriller could earn more frequent flyer miles if continued on HBO Max.

For those of you who've been assigned to the back of the cabin, The Flight Attendant centers around Cassie Bowden (Cuoco), an alcoholic, globe-trotting flight attendant who after waking up next to a dead body becomes entrenched in a mystery that introduces danger at every few-thousand feet. By the end of the first season, Cassie finds herself wrapped up in an insidious plot while surrounded by very few people she can trust.

According to previous reports, The Flight Attendant grew in popularity week-after-week since its HBO Max debut, eventually becoming the platform's No. 1 series overall. The eight-episode season currently has a 98% fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes and Cuoco's performance has been hailed by many to be among the best of the year on television. In addition to the Big Bang Theory and Harley Quinn star, The Flight Attendant also features Michiel Huisman, Rosie Perez, Zosia Mamet, Michelle Gomez, T.R. Knight, Colin Woodell, Merle Dandridge, Griffin Matthews, and Nolan Gerard Funk.

“We are delighted that the show has resonated so strongly with audiences and critics,” said Casey Bloys, Chief Content Officer at HBO and HBO Max. “We congratulate Kaley, Steve, Greg, and Sarah, along with the rest of the incredibly talented cast, executive producers, and our partners at Warner Bros. Television on all the success of the first season. I look forward to seeing where Cassie will go next.”

“To say that I am elated would be an understatement! The positive response to our show has surpassed all of our expectations and I’m so proud of the entire team behind its success,” said executive producer and star Cuoco. “I’m thrilled to continue my partnership with Team Berlanti, Steve Yockey, HBO Max and of course my beloved studio, Warner Bros. I have amazing partners in Suzanne McCormack and Mackenzie Shade at Yes, Norman Prods., where we are committed to delivering diverse and quality entertainment, including an exciting (and probably a little crazy) TFA season 2!!”

“We could not be more pleased to embark on another adventure with our incredible partners at Yes, Norman, Kaley, and Suzanne, our wonderful creator Steve Yockey, as well as our collaborators at WBTV and HBO Max,” EPs Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter remarked. “We are thrilled that people have responded so positively to our beloved show, and in particular Kaley Cuoco’s incredible, tour de force performance.”

I've yet to check out The Flight Attendant on account of HBO Max not being made available in Canada, but I must admit that I'm intrigued. Plenty of people are enjoying the hell out of it from what I've read online and Cuoco has become a rising star for me thanks to her bang-up job as the voice of Harley Quinn for DC's animated series. While her time on The Big Bang Theory helped place her on the Hollywood map in more ways than one it's great to see that this show allows her to spread her wings and really fly.

We'll be sure to bring you more news about The Flight Attendant Season 2 as it develops.
